The Community Response Guide
This guide will ask you a few questions in order to determine a recommended response to your concern about a child or family.
Before you begin, please review the important information below.
- If a child is experiencing an emergency, do not proceed. Call 911.
- If your concern is about a child in foster care or another residential setting, do not complete this tool. Contact the Child Abuse Hotline at (800) 344-6000.
- This tool is designed to provide guidance and examples to help recognize potential warning signs of child abuse and neglect. Some of the language and examples refer to situations of abuse, harm, or neglect.
- Guidance offers additional information to help with your selections. Examples are not all-inclusive and do not cover every possible situation.
- If this concern has already been reported and the information you have is known to child welfare, you do not need to make a duplicate report.
